Charge Analysers

Mütek LAB products are often used in the pulp and paper industry to help save you money by maintaining tight control over key wet end parameters like dissolved charge, fiber charge, retention, drainage and freeness. They have a multitude of uses in other industries and applications also, where particle surface charge measurements are important.

 MÜTEK PCD-04 PARTICLE CHARGE DETECTOR
... KNOWS WHAT'S IN SOLUTION

The Mütek PCD-04 Particle Charge Detector measures colloidally dissolved substances in a process sample. It is a standard tool for detecting anionic trash levels as well as for characterizing chemical additives. Equipped with an optional pH probe, the pH value of samples can be monitored and the isoelectric point be determined.

To measure charge the sample material has to be titrated in the PCD measuring cell. Highest accuracy and reproducibility is achieved by combining the Mütek PCD-04 with the automatic titrator Mütek PCD-T3. This set-up is widely used around the world in:

  • R&D labs of chemical suppliers and paper mills
    Universities, institutes, schools
    Applications outside the paper industry
making the Mütek PCD the standard for charge measurements.

The Mütek PCD-04 is also available with an integrated titration module - the so called Mütek PCD-04 Travel - for easy travelling and charge measurements onsite.

SZP-10 Zeta Potential System

MÜTEK SZP-10 SYSTEM ZETA POTENTIAL
... KNOWS WHAT'S ON YOUR FIBER

The Mütek SZP-10 System Zeta Potential detects the surface charge of fibers and fillers. Measuring samples before and after contact with a chemical additive evaluates the efficiency, for example, of a starch or a wet strength agent in the papermaking process. The SZP is becoming a standard tool especially as process samples can be taken as they are, and do not have to be changed for e.g. electrophoresis.

By using the tailor-made software Mütek ChargeView results obtained by the SZP-10 can be transferred in a database to administrate them and also compare them with measurements of the Mütek PCD-04 Travel.

MÜTEK DFR-05 DRAINAGE FREENESS RETENTION
... HIGHLY EFFICIENT LAB EVALUATION OF RETENTION AIDS

The Mütek DFR-05 Drainage Freeness Retention simulates the retention and drainage conditions prevailing in an papermachine immediately before and during sheet forming, enabling a systematic assessment of chemical influences. Chemical addition is fully automated via an integrated dosing module. The optional RET-20 Lab sensor can also directly measure filtrate consistency, eliminating time-consuming manual determination of stock and ash consistencies. This unit is the first choice when an existing retention aid program needs to be reviewed and a new one specified.

A special version of the DFR-05 is also available for paper mills where freeness measurement is already an essential part of daily operation, and where measuring dewatering of headbox samples is becoming increasingly important. Using shear force technology, this model accurately simulates paper machine dewatering, making it an indispensable partner for all wet end dewatering measurement.
